CAN-Particles
The CAN GmbH has patented procedures to make nano phosphors. Down-conversion phosphors are marketed under the brand name CANdot® Series X. Green, yellow and red emitting phosphors are offered all to be excited in the UV-C spectral range. Red emitting nano particles which are excitable in the UV-A are also available. For the field of molecular imaging up-conversion nano phosphors are being developed. Excitation in near infrared yields green emission.
As paramagnetic contrast agents for medical imaging iron and gadolinium containing nano particles are offered with different kind of surface modification.
The heavy rare earth elements are known of having a high x-ray opacity. Due to their small size the rare earth based nano particles can be compounded to transparent materials to yield an x-ray opaque material while still being transparent to daylight.
